This is the culprit. I bet it contains something like
AC_DEFUN(AC_C_BACKSLASH_A,
instead of
AC_DEFUN([AC_C_BACKSLASH_A],
and that makes a huge difference.
This file should *not* be there, it is not in the CVS repository. I
strongly suggest that you try from a fresh checkout.
