Happy Easter everybody!
It has been years since I last worked on AKFQuiz. Well, I had lost the
motivation and I have been working on other projects. But now I have
started to rewrite cgiquiz in Perl.
The problem with cgiquiz is that I cannot install it on my public
server. I had run it on a private server for a time, but that one broke
down. I don't want to run my normal PC all the time, because it wastes
too much energy and it's too loud at night. Fortunately the people of
Freaknet allowed me to install cgiquiz on one of their servers. I was
very grateful of that! Is anybondy from Freaknet here on the list?
But I'm only a guest there, so this also was just a preliminary
solution.
Now I have a better contract with my web hoster. I am still not allowed
to install compiled binaries there, so I still cannot install cgiquiz,
but I may install programs in Perl or PHP now. That is why I rewrite
cgiquiz in Perl. Perl is not my favourite language, but I can work with
it.
I already have a barly working draft. But a lot of the functionality
is still missing. It is a complete rewrite, since I cannot reuse any
code. I don't plan to reimplement the exam-mode. Is anybody using
that at all?
I call the new program "akfquizweb" now. Do you have better suggestions
for the name? I also plan to release it under a different license:
the GNU AGPL <http://www.gnu.org/licenses/agpl.html>. I also think
about changing the license for all of AKFQuiz to the AGPL. It doesn't
really make sense for the desktop programs, but then it would be all
under one license, and it doesn't harm.
By the way, if you are already using cgiquiz, you should stay with it.
The new program won't be better than cgiquiz, it will be worse! It is
only for those who cannot use cgiquiz, but who could use Perl programs.
Please tell me, what you think about it.
