From: Kevin Atkinson
Subject: [aspell-devel] New Aspell Snapshot, Language Package, and mk, vi, yi Dictionaries
Date: Wed, 28 Apr 2004 18:12:10 -0400 (EDT)

A new Aspell snapshot is now available:
  ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/aspell-0.60-20040428.tar.gz

Changes in this release:

  * Several bugs were fixed in the Unicode Normalization code. The
format of the normalization map file has also changed.

  * Unicode Normalization is now enabled by default.

  * Bug fixes in terminal code when combining characters are used.

  * Minor changes in the prezip utility

  * Other bug fixes

Major Changes in the 20030424 release:

  * New utility, prezip, which is a rewrite of word-list-compress.

Major Changes in the 20040413 release:

  * Unicode Normalization is now supported as described in
    http://aspell.net/devel-doc/man/Unicode-Normalization.html

Important changes that were introduces in the 20040402 snapshot:

  * The dictionary format unfortunately changes again due to a number of
    bugs that were discovered.

  * The format and name of the character set data file changed again.
The extension changed from .dat to .cset. The format and name
    should be stable now.

Important changes that were introduced with the 20040317 snapshot:

  1) I decided to name the next Aspell version 0.60 since almost every
part of Aspell has been refactored or rewritten to some extent.

  2) Dictionaries and data files are now installed in LIBDIR/aspell-0.60
so that Aspell 0.50 and 0.60 can more peacefully coexist.

A new Aspell Language package is now available:
  ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/aspell-lang-20040428.tar.bz2

Changes:

  * Minor changes to work with the new Aspell snapshot

  * All info files are now expected to be in UTF-8

  * The new prezip utility is used instead of word-list-compress

  * It is no longer necessary to provide a compressed word list
as the Makefile now includes a rule which will make it from a
    plain word list file (*.wl).

New experiential dictionaries are now available for Vietnamese (vi) and
Yiddish (yi). The Bengali (bn), Hebrew (he), and Tamil (ta) dictionaries
have also been updated. You can find all at
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/dict.

A Macedonian (mk) dictionary is now also available for Aspell 0.50 or
0.60. You can find it at ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/dict/mk.
