[Aspell-user] Personal list help!

Having a hard time getting my personal list to work.

Followed the manual and tried : aspell --lang=«lang» create master 
./«base» < «wordlist» but got "Sorry "create/merge personal" is 
currently unimplemented".
Read in another thread about making the list myself so added it to 
.aspell.en.pws .

Added:
personal_ws-1.1 english 19
userfirstname

Then tried the line below but no luck.

cat $temptext | /usr/bin/aspell -a -H --personal=~/.aspell.en.pws
cat $temptext | /usr/bin/aspell -a -H -p=~/.aspell.en.pws

What am I doing wrong? Could anybody point me in the right direction.
