I don't know which versions of XEmacs or AUCTeX shipped with SuSE 9.0,
so I cannot say anything about that. For AUCTeX it doesn't really
matter because if the version in SuSE 9.2 is outdated, the version in
SuSE 9.0 is as well.
Anyway, the advice I gave you should work even with old versions. Did
it help?
