[AUCTeX] How to type '--'?

Hi,

I like very much the new feature that enters '"=' while typing '--'
because I need it frequently during writing german texts.

However I wonder what is the preferred way now to enter '--' in order to
get a \textendash? The best way I found is to type '- C-b -' and this is
what I recommend to users now. But are there other (better) ideas?
