That did the trick. For documentation purposes, I am now using the following entry in TeX-output-view-style:
%(o?)dvips -Ppdf -G0 -ta4 %d -o && ps2pdf %f && open -a TeXShop.app % s.pdf
(Switched to TeXShop for previewing because of the superior reloading capability compared to Preview.app or Adobe Reader)
