O.K. Sorry. I got the auctex in zippbed bundle with w32 Emacs and date is:

AUCTeX-date "2007-01-23"

so I don't have the TeX-engine variable. It's not mentioned in tex.el and will probably be in next version.

Is it possible to run this tex variant from auctex?
