You likely mean cleveref, not cleverref.
It should at least be easy to teach RefTeX to use \cref and \Cref
instead of \ref. See (info "(reftex)Reference Styles"). IIRC this is
not yet supported by the version of RefTeX which is built into Emacs, so
you will need the standalone version.
