[AUCTeX] AUCTeX and xelatex

Hi,

I started using xelatex instead of (pdf)latex recently and I have noticed that
preview-latex doesn't seem to work with it. When I try to run preview-buffer, I
get an error (pasted below).

A little googling suggests that preview-latex doesn't work with xelatex in
general. Is this correct? Are there workarounds I might try? Are there plans to
make preview-latex work with xelatex?
