The matter is, I suppose, that what you use is based on a too old Debian
auctex package version (Ubuntu is based on Debian).
Be sure to use something based at least on auctex Debian version
11.86-3, better yet latest 11.86-9
(http://packages.debian.org/sid/auctex).
