I am in no position to offer help.  But I can add another data point:

GNU Emacs 24.3.1 (x86_64-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 3.4.2) of 2013-04-13
on trouble, modified by Debian

auctex on the very same commit
(536cea74cd65b66c7f8721a2e298c02d9fc4ecef)

works for me.

I git pulled auctex, copied the debian folder from the debian package of auctex
(debian testing) over, removed the debian patches (as not all would apply) and
built the package.
