Yes, a question is shown, something like »build server now?« I answered »Yes«
and ended without the binary.

I downloaded the package from the website, as zip file as well as git and
compiled. Got everything except the pdf-tools-autoloads.el

Yes, of course. I don't get any error message during build and despite the
different names of the packages I'm assuming that I installed all the
necessary packages.

Thank you for your speedy answer. Maybe someone here on the list uses
openSuse...
