It was suggested to me by Robert Collins, that's why I did it.

In his comment above, he told you to read the docs so you would realize that --host is not used for telling it the hostname of the machine you wish to compile the program on.

So why does it now work?

Nevermind why it accidentally works when building on other machines. Drop the --host and it should continue working on them, and also on localhost.
