Hi Patrice, looks like a reasonable macro. However, might I suggest that you send it to the Autoconf Macro Repository? That's usually the preferable route for macros adding new functionality and which may have a limited audience (most Fortran programmers are likely to avoid C-style escapes if they care about portability, I would think).
