The OP says he is using Win2K/msys. If so, then he already has bash, and
trying to build and install a new one from GNU sources isn't going to be a
trivial exercise -- it's actually rather fraught with peril, and not for the
faint hearted.
Dieter, make sure you really are running your configure && make etc. in the
msys shell, and not in a cmd.exe (DOS) box. Easier still, just grab a ready
made autoconf 2.59 kit for Win32/MSYS from the MinGW download site...
