Quoting CVS Autoconf docs:
|  -- Macro: AC_CONFIG_AUX_DIR (DIR)
|      Use the auxiliary build tools (e.g., `install-sh', `config.sub',
| [...]
|      If you need portability to DOS variants, do not name the auxiliary
|      directory `aux'.  *Note File System Conventions::.
