Dunno. Maybe you should just pick MP_WITH_CURSES from the Autoconf
Macro Archive and see if it's good enough, or improve it until it is,
and try to push the improvements back. Or go with the strategy employed
in gnulib's readline module and just try no additional library before
ncurses before curses before termcap.
