Thanks a lot. I've installed the following on HEAD and branch-1-8.
I've not applied the other chunk because it's part of a larger
problem: the whole GNU Hello example need to be updated to a
recent version of GNU Hello. Unfortunately the current version
of GNU Hello has a wretched configure.ac. It seems the
maintainer needs some help to clean it up.
