I have designed 4 boards that rely on the RC oscillator to generate bit
rates up to 38400, many have been installed on an RS-485 network and
have been working reliably.  Some of the installations are in cabinets
that get very hot, 58C, and all have performed flawlessly, I think you
can rely on it.

We have done the same.  My only advise is make sure you use the
correct OSCCAL value if running at anything other than the 1Mhz
default on the internal oscillator.
