-c stk500 tries to probe for both, stk500v1 and stk500v2 protocols.
Better use the explicit protocol version after the -c.

Btw., your subject line lacks a bit to be desired.  Feel luck I
read the message at all, I've been close to discard it because I
don't have an "iRobot Owner's Manual" anyway.
