Hmm...I don't have a KDE system handy, so I don't think I'll get
around to debug this particular problem anytime soon. Would you have a
chance to give it a try? There are a couple of debug macros in mon.c
that can be enabled in order to get some more diagnostic information
while running.

If you're referring to the comment in mon.c ("Bugs: For me this work
only if Parellel port in EPP mode.  May be ECP mode also work?"), this
was left by Denis Chertykov. Maybe he can explain its implications.
The parallel port's always worked ok for me, but then I haven't really
been experimenting much, either.
