[avr-gcc-list] debugging avr-gcc code

Hi all,

Can you please tell me how to debug avr-gcc code ?

First of all I would like to say that I'm pretty new with the AVR and I'm
searching for a simulator, since I don't have any harware yet.

1.) I tried avr studio:

With the elf to coff tool I can debug simple programs, but I compiled
ucos-ii and it keeps crashing the avr studio.

2.) I tried avrsim on linux:

This is also a bit unhappy even with simple programs.
I found out that I need to pass a bin file, so I covert the .rom file (intel
hex) into a bin file, but still I'm getting a segmentation fault.

I can not even compile the source code on RH7.1, since I'm getting syntax
errors.

3.) I am willing to buy an ICE, but I don't know how to debug avr-gcc code
with this.

Can you please help ?

How are you guys debugging your code ?
