Check out www.slickedit.com.  They make a really nice IDE that is
supported on many, many platforms.  It also has bindings for vi and emacs
if you are already used to one or the other.  I think the new version is
about $300, but its $99 for the academic version if that applies.
        I use emacs, but at my old work we used slickedit and it is the
best development tool I've used in linux.  Not opensource, but supporting
commercial packages in linux at least makes your money more worth while.
