From: address@hidden
Subject: [avr-gcc-list] AVARICE - Insight connection
Date: Tue, 16 Sep 2003 09:10:11 +0200

Hi to all,

I get last WinAVR release and tried to use AVARICE with Insight with JTAG.

I followed the instruction, but I was not able to use AVARIVE with Insight.

I start AVARICE, then it wait for connection on port 4242 (I also tried to
change the port number, but the result does not change),

C:\AVR\Test>avarice --verify --file testlib.elf --jtag com1 :4242
AVaRICE version 2.0.20030825cvs, Sep 12 2003 12:56:48

JTAG config starting.
Hardware Version: 0xc0
Software Version: 0x67
Reported JTAG device ID: 0x9702
Configured for device ID: 0x9702 atmega128
LockBits -> 0xff

Reading Fuse Bytes:
  Extended Fuse byte -> 0xff
      High Fuse byte -> 0x00
       Low Fuse byte -> 0x0f
JTAG config complete.

Download complete.
Waiting for connection on port 4242.

then I start Insight, load the TestLib.elf file, then select Run, Connect to
target, select Target Remote/TCP, select hostname localhost, select port 4242,
download program in unchecked, then press OK.
AVARICE connect but to a different port and then exit and also Insight give an
error (Could not establish connection to remote target).

Connection opened by host 127.0.0.1, port 1463.
JTAG ICE communication failed: Resource temporarily unavailable

Maybe a configuration problem ? Does avarice and insight work on Win98SE ?
JTAG firmware too old ?

The connection (JTAG, cable Hardware board) works with AVR-studio 3.53, but I
would like to leave AVR-Studio and use Insight instead.
HW board uses a atmega128 running at 16 MHz.

PC is a ASUS notebook (266 MHz with 160 MB ram, 20 GB HDD) running WIN98SE.

Thank you, Patrizio.
