I had hoped the maintainers of avr-gcc would be reading this list ;)
But I will probably have to contact them directly as you suggest.

Im not very familiar with other compilers than gcc for avr, but avr-gcc's lack 
of callframe information will certainly disable the possibility to watch stack 
traces in future versions of avr-studio for avr-gcc object files.
