I should have added that it will probably enounter licensing issues
doing that right away, maybe even technical problems.

The licensing issue: the author of that code would have to reassign
the code under GPL, and to do all the FSF paperwork.  In particular
the latter is not very likely to happen (you know yourself how awful
it is to do).

The technical problem: I didn't look into these routines, but quite
possible that they are using some of these helper functions out of
fplib.

[Btw., it would be *really* nice if your MUA used In-reply-to or
References headers...  You're always starting a new thread right now.
I know, you probably have no choice about it. :( ]
