    Tim,

        Start here, and you'll be way ahead of the game.

        http://www.linuxfocus.org/English/November2004/article352.shtml

        If your development PC does not have a Parallel port,
        you'll need something a little different.

        I use
        http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?
Ref=114238&Row=244083&Site=US
        for $30. If you only have a USB port, you can get a USB-2-RS232
        adapter and use that.

        Or, get this:
        http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?
Ref=114238&Row=245287&Site=US
        for $80 which acts as a programmer and includes a test CPU.

        Let us know how you're doing.
