I was definitely missing something! The data segment was starting at
0x800060, which is smack in the middle of the register space! The
correct switches for the AT90PWM2 are...

avr-gcc -mmcu=avr4 -minit-stack=0x2ff -Tdata 0x800100 -D__AVR_AT90PWM2__

I see that GCC in the subversion repository supports the AT90PWM parts.
