[avr-libc-dev] Current branches

Since I just opened the 1.6 branch, we've now got two open branches
around.

HEAD of CVS is for ongoing development work, eventually to become
avr-libc-1.8.  The development name is 1.7.x.

1.6 is the "stable" branch where our next releases will primarily been
made of.  Any trivial changes from HEAD can be incorporated
immediately, and substantial changes might be committed here provided
they don't break the 1.6.x API and ABI.

1.4 is the previous stable branch.  It will eventually die away.  Only
critical bugfixes should be applied here (which might eventually end
up becoming avr-libc-1.4.8 some day, but only if the effort is really
warranted).
