I dont understand this change.
In vmlisp.lisp:
(defun pname (x)
(cond ((symbolp x) (symbol-name x))
((characterp x) (string x))
(t nil)))
Thus (subseq (pname x) n) should be sufficient. Quite a lot of
redundant code in the above.
