Hi Teus,

I tried to log into the project site so I could respond but it wouldn't let me. I don't have time right now to figure this out so I'll just put my thoughts down here.

As I think about this, I think that changing the appearance of the verse numbers in the editor does not serve the real end user, which is the reader of the text being translated. The editor needs to have the verse numbers visible in the editor. Though it would be nice if they could turn them on and off to do screen reading, it's probably just a luxury at this point.

Where this is really needed, IMO, is in print so that readers, who are not involved in the editing, can test the text for readability. The text has to look as natural as possible. If you change the color of the verse numbers to white it is certainly true they will not be seen. However, the space that they take up will still be there and that might make the word spacing look a little unnatural.

I have a publishing project where hanging verse numbers are a requirement so I am working on this problem too. When I get something I'll send you some output so you can see how the system I use outputs text like this.

Just some thoughts. I guess the bottom line for me on this is I'm seeing this as an issue for output formating more than editing. That being the case, it is not worth your time to try to implement something on the editor level, IMO. If something can be done at the format level that would be a better place to implement.

Thanks,

Dennis

Follow-up Comment #1:

The time has come for this task to be dealt with, because it is now at the
top of the list of tasks.

The good thing is that Bibledit already does the main thing of what was asked
in this feature request.

The "v" style can be given a color. If the color is made white, then it
disappears on the paper, and it is the same as if the verse is not there. Or
if the "v" style is made gray or given a very small size, then that is how it
gets printed.
