Details:
In Ubuntu 8.04 the git installation is broken:
Teus: The git installed on Ubuntu 8.04 seems broken, and I tried to use it
nevertheless, but it really is broken, and the adaptation of Bibledit to use
that broken git broke Bibledit's collaboration system also. I've now reverted
to the original code in bibledit before the adaptation to Kubuntu 8.04 was
made. In the installation instructions it is now recommended to install git
1.5.3 from source in case collaboration is used. I tried the things on my
system, and it works fine now. If you'd like to try again, please go ahead.
So I downloaded both (for testing if a higher git versions would make it
too):
- git-1.5.3.8.tar.gz and
- git-1.6.0.tar.gz
Trying out: git-1.6.0.tar.gz gives under make:
* tclsh failed; using unoptimized loading
MSGFMT po/de.msg make[1]: *** [po/de.msg] Error 127
make: *** [all] Error 2
So I delete the folder address@hidden:~/git-1.6.0$
and try the installing git-1.5.3.8.tar.gz.
This one works.
-> In http://www.nongnu.org/bibledit/install_git.html add the following
information.
- this is necessary in Ubuntu 8.04 as the git installation is broken there
- 'Download package git-1.5.3.tar.gz or a higher version.'
specify 1.5.3.8 (e.g.) works, but neither 1.5.4 nor 1.6.0.
- './configure --prefix=/usr'
This is necessary (together with "make" and "sudo make install", to overwrite
the old version of git,
So it is not necessary to uninstall the already installed version of
git(git-core?) from your system
