Details:

At times the focused window does not get registered properly. The symptoms
are that when one pressed Ctrl-W in order to close the focused window,
suddenly another window disappears and the focused one remains.

Suggestion is to improve the focus registration. At present there is a delay
so that after focusing, for a short while no focuses are registered anymore.
We probably need to bypass that system.
