Follow-up Comment #8:

This one was hard to find. It seems to be related to a combination of using
gtk, threads and dbus. This combination is used by bibledit. When the bug
occurs it consistently exits with code 1. An ugly work-around has been created
that when bibledit exits with code 1, it gets restarted once. 

After your system reboots, and bibledit gets started, it will then show up
briefly, go away, then come back permanently.

What happens is that bibledit gets started, crashes with exit code 1, and the
wrapper script notices this, then restarts bibledit once.

The solution is ugly but I don't care. It works, that's the main point here.
