Details:

Once git version 1.6.2 or higher is generally available in the most important
distributions, it is recommended to take advantage of its capability to clone
empty repositories.

If an empty repository could be cloned, this would get rid of one step when
setting up the repository. It no longer needs to be filled with junk.
