We have moved to Paratext 7 here and are starting to look at the
Interlinearizer feature it now incorporates. I only recently have
become aware of Bibledit and would like know a bit more about any plans
it may have to incorporate a similar feature.
Here all translators are nationals and we use consultants to support the
translation teams. However, none of the consultants have deep knowledge
of the languages, so a "back translation" type tool is essential (we are
back-translating to English). Adapt-It was what we were considering (as
a back translation tool) before seeing the possibility in the Paratext 7
Interlinearizer. There would be great advantage to having it
incorporated in the bible transalation data entry software such as
this. But it also would be great to not be tied to Windows.
Secondly, I do see that Bibledit has a process in place for sharing
projects, and has logic for merging conflicts at the verse level
(additionally, if changes are made to different verses in a chapter they
will be merged without flagging as a conflict). This is very nice and
is how it now is done in Paratext 7 as well. I have not played with it
yet in Bibledit (it may be some time as I am at this point just trying
to educate myself). My question is whether or not project notes are
also shared? I saw mention previously on the Linux forum about needing
to backup / restore notes. Is there a way to directly share them?
What I forsee for us is the ability for consultants to create notes, but
for the teams to be the only ones making scripture changes. So, team
computers would need to have the ability to update and sync scripture
and notes, whereas the consultant machines would only need "read only"
to scripture, but have the ability to create and comment on project
notes (in sync with other members).
Thanks for any input,
Andy Iverson
