I have checked in the proposed change.  Pardon the delay: Akim's
response to my RFA appears to have fallen through a hole in the

Actually, one of our graduate students is writing a fancier GLR parser
of his own, and was playing around with the latest Bison sources to
see how my version worked.  He tried a simple example that exhibited
the problem (which I added to the regression testsuite).
