The latter is better, but I'll have to check the .l file for
quoting that xgettext understands.  Thanks for reporting that.

The bootstrap ought to check itself by applying itself to its own .y
file.  The resulting .c and .h files are what ought to go out in
tarballs.  This is a bit tricky, though.
