[Bug-AUCTeX] preview-1.248; preview completely broken?

preview used to work fine, but now i get the following error/backtrace
(on any LaTeX document, eg

\end{document}

of course AUCTeX can compile this fine.).

Did I break something? [the only thing I can remember changing getting
the latest cvs auctex(+preview)]
