Subject: | [Bug-AUCTeX] TeX-style-path variable misbehaving |

I'm using auctex cvs version 11.80 as of 7/3/05 with Carbon Emacs cvs version 22.0.50.1 as of 5/20/05. The TeX-style-path variable is refusing to be customized. It resets outside customization every time you quit and restart. It has the correct values for local and global paths, but for the private style and auto paths it makes up a value. It's hard for me to figure out exactly what rule it is using. In Carbon Emacs it seems to use the first entry in TEXINPUTS, but I also tried this with emacs 21.2.1 and there it made up a different value, using a directory that doesn't exist any more! Weird.
Customizing the variable TeX-style-private has no effect on the value of TeX-style-path, and it is the latter variable that seems to determine where auctex looks. This is why I was having trouble. The workaround is simply to put the private style directory where auctex wants it to be, based on an examination of the variable TeX-style- path. But it ought to be customizable, or at least honor the settings of TeX-style-private.
