How does that "(PNG copy)" come into being at all? In my case the
output buffer shows this:
--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
! Preview: Snippet 2 started.
<-><->
l.8 \includegraphics
{figure.png}
<figure.png, id=8, 178.6675pt x 200.75pt> <use figure.png>
! Preview: Snippet 2 ended.(13156319+0x11709124).
<-><->
l.8 \includegraphics{figure.png}
[2 <./figure.png>]
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---
... and everything works fine.
