The regexp for recognizing a \documentclass macro when parsing the file
looks like this
"\\\\document\\(style\\|class\\)\
\\(\\[\\(\\([^#\\.%]\\|%[^\n\r]*[\n\r]\\)*\\)\\]\\)?\
{\\([^#\\\\\\.\n\r]+?\\)}"
(See `LaTeX-auto-minimal-regexp-list'.) So periods in arguments are
explicitely disallowed. Does anybody know why this restriction is in
place?
