The latter. Here is the value, it is a list!

--8<------------------------schnipp------------------------->8---
`toolbarx-image-path' is a variable declared in Lisp.
  -- loaded from "toolbar-x"

Value: ("/usr/share/xemacs21/site-packages/etc/auctex/images"
"/usr/lib/xemacs-21.4.19/etc/")

Documentation:
This is where toolbarx finds its images.

I don't know why there is also /usr/lib/xemacs-21.4.19/etc but anyhow.

A clarification. I am talking here about the old

As I already mentioned in my last mail.

This package has much more math symbols that the original auctex one
and replaces it, at least that worked before 11.84, where auctex did
not had his own toolbar, but now things might be different.

Which reminds me to ask why at least not some functionality, namely
the huge amount of math symbols could be merged into auctex. As far as
I know the package does not work for GNU Emacs 21, about 22 I don't
know, and then of course there is the problem of copyright.
