[Bug-AUCTeX] preview images incorrectly placed when file name is long

when previewing a LaTeX file named 
asdf-asdf-asdf-asdf-asdf-asdf-asdf-asdf-asdf-asdf-asdf-asdf-as.tex, the preview 
images appear inthe wrong locations in the file.   I narrowed this down to the 
long file name(!).  if the file name isshortened, the problem goes away.  I 
attached both the latex and an image of the buffer to a previous report, but it 
was not posted to the mailing list, so I am trying again without the 
attachments, but am happy to provide these again if needed.please let me know
