[Bug-AUCTeX] AUCTex not catching errors

In LaTeX mode, after running LaTeX with C-c C-c, I always get "LateX:
successfully formatted {1} page" even when LaTeX exits abnormally.

I am using XEmacs/AUCTex that is included with the current stable
Cygwin distribution.
