Sorry but I cannot reproduce your error with AUCTeX 11.88 on GNU Emacs
24.4.  Which is your Emacs version?  Have you tried starting up Emacs
with a clean init file (not `emacs -q', ELPA packages won't be loaded
in that case)?

This is not a common problem, we have received only one other similar
report a few months ago
