I just tried autoconf 2.56 (same as 2.55 except for packaging) on
Solaris 2.6 (sparc) with GCC 3.1 sans Fortran, and it passed all the
tests except for the Fortran tests (up through test 83, anyway; I'm
tired of waiting for that slow machine to finish).

It appars to me that your GCC installation on Solaris 2.6 is incorrect.

says that you're using a GCC 3.2 built for Solaris 7.  In general,
this won't work on Solaris 2.6.
