Follow-up Comment #5, sr #108262 (project autoconf): I miss still a bit of information. Are paths stored in variables like "srcdir" in a way that "special" characters <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escape_character> (like a single quote) are escaped by the Autoconf software? I imagine that another function would be needed to display such data as an original/unescaped string if it was adjusted by the system infrastructure somehow.
