Hi Patricia,
First, automake-1.9 is old (2004-07-28). You should pick up at least the
2005-07-28 release ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/automake/automake-1.9.6.tar.gz
It may be that the problems you found have been fixed already, so do see
if the problem exists in 1.9.6 of automake.
Next, read the test/README file for how to get details from your failures.
For example, in your case, you need:
env VERBOSE=x TESTS='dollar.test lisp3.test lisp6.test' make -e check
If you still have problems, then send the verbose output of the failing
tests to address@hidden
